Darjeeling itinerary for 3 days
Day 1: Bagdogra / Siliguri to Darjeeling (83km/ 3 hrs)
Your journey begins at Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station. From here, you drive towards Darjeeling, a scenic ride of about four hours. The road winds through lush tea gardens, small mountain villages, and the Teesta River valley. You can stop at viewpoints along the way to capture the beauty of the Himalayan foothills.
Once you arrive in Darjeeling, check into your hotel and relax. In the evening, take a leisurely walk around Mall Road and Chowrasta. This lively area is the heart of Darjeeling, lined with shops, cafés, and benches where you can sit and enjoy the cool breeze. Overnight stay in Darjeeling.
Day 2: Darjeeling Sightseeing with Sunrise at Tiger Hill
The second day of your Darjeeling trip starts early. Around 4 AM, head towards Tiger Hill to witness the world-famous sunrise. As the first rays of the sun touch Mt. Kanchenjunga, the peaks glow in shades of orange and gold. On clear mornings, you might even catch a glimpse of Mt. Everest.
After Tiger Hill, visit the Batasia Loop, a spiral railway track with breathtaking views of the town and surrounding valleys. Next, stop at Ghoom Monastery, one of the oldest Tibetan monasteries in Darjeeling.
Return to your hotel for breakfast and then continue with sightseeing:
- Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park – home to red pandas and snow leopards.
- Himalayan Mountaineering Institute – famous for its Everest memorabilia.
- Tea Garden – enjoy a outer view of tea gardens and valleys.
- Tibetan Refugee Centre – learn about local handicrafts and culture.
- Japanese Temple & Peace Pagoda – a calm place for meditation and wide Himalayan views.
In the evening, shop for tea, woollens, and souvenirs at the local markets. Stay overnight in Darjeeling.
Day 3: Darjeeling to Siliguri / Bagdogra
On your final morning, enjoy breakfast with a view of the hills. If time allows, you can take a short walk in a tea estate and experience how the world-famous Darjeeling tea is produced. Later, drive back to Siliguri or Bagdogra for your onward journey.
